Hi, I’m Ruth!

I’m a reward-based trainer servicing Hobart and surrounds. I believe in following a kind, science-based approach to dog training.

I started a dog walking business in 2023 after a lifetime of being ‘obsessed’ with dogs. Shortly after starting dog walking I realised that my true passion was in training.

I enjoy helping dogs and their guardians with essential life skills and basic manners incorporating enrichment and play into my training. I’m also passionate about helping reactive dogs and their guardians, so they can live happy and fulfilling lives together.

Boop the Snoot prides itself on being a non-judgmental, safe space. We are LGBTQI+, disability and neurodivergent friendly. Not only are we compassionate with the dogs, but with humans too.

Ruth.

Obsessed with dogs!

Why I do what I do

My first dog was Molimo, a rescue german shepherd X. He had BIG feelings about other dogs, people, and essentially the whole world. I remember feeling completely lost and overwhelmed when trying to manage his reactivity. When I researched trainers in my area, so many seemed to use fear and pain as the best methods to train a reactive dog, which didn’t sit well with me, as I believed that his big feelings came from a place of fear and uncertanity, which needed to be met with compassionate training methods.

I then adopted Axel, a senior german shepherd. Axel had the kindest, beautiful soul, and he taught me what it meant to really love a dog. We had an incredible bond and I would love to help other pet parents discover that relationship with their dog. Axel also taught me alot about cooperative care for grooming and handling and pain in dogs. This is when I began studying my Certificate IV.

I am now a pet parent to Thunder, an adolescent german shepherd. Thunder teaches me something new every day, but he especially teaches me patience and the importance of force-free training methods. He has given me first hand experience with raising a puppy, and we aim to compete in dog sports when he grows up.

These three boys are the original reason why I began my dog training journey and why I continue to learn every day. They are also the reason why I have a keen interest in cooperative care, reactivity, pain, and young, high energy dogs.
